About the Artist
Renee Marting (born 2003) is an American artist currently living and working in South East Michigan. Her passion for art started in her early childhood, centered around a deep belief in fairies and the magic of the world around her. While she did not have any formal education in art until college, she spent her early life painting and drawing the beauty of the world around her.
In high school, she became a theatre practitioner, creating art both on and off stage. Costume design would become her route into the fine art world. Painting her designs for the stage, she wanted to explore further the contradictions she found troubling between the beauty of the female form and the harsh reality of the world it existed in.
Working as a costume designer, technician, and completing a degree in mixed media art created numerous routes to explore these thoughts through paper, canvas, fabric, photography, and more. Renee’s work has been exhibited in numerous shows in the Grand Rapids and Holland Area where she attended Undergrad. She has additionally studied in London and Paris during her undergrad experience, focusing on the works of ‘the greats’ in Western art and how they have succeeded and failed in representing women’s bodies and experiences.
